After nearly two weeks, it’s my turn to do the blog. We all got a much needed lie in before mum and dad (Kenny and Christine), Mark, Ashley and Michael decided to go for a dip. The latter 3 decided to show us their jumping skills as a means of entering the pool.
Unfortunately for me, due to daily power shedding, there was no electricity for toast at breakfast, although they still managed to produce a full cooked fry.
After breakfast Diane brought a smile to the team’s faces when she appeared with tennis racquets and balls from reception. Despite the state of the court fresh with monkey droppings, both Michael and Rachel offered strong opposition to Downshire chairman Kenny. However the favourite became champion once again with a magnificent behind the back winner, leaving Michael red-faced.
The beating of local drums is our regular call to meals. After lunch, pool games were on the agenda with Ashley, Alice and Phil coming to the fore.
The group then divided into two for water and land safaris. I went with mum, dad, Archie, Alice, the two Hollys and Ackim (our bus driver) on a water safari. Unfortunately, unlike the previous day, the hippos failed to show. It was very windy and the boat broke down on our way back. Despite Alice taking what could have been her last group selfie, and to the tune of Titanic, we made it safely ashore.
Our next problem was a monkey who refused to get off our minibus roof and had to be persuaded by local onlookers offering food to get it.
After our daily drum call to dinner we made our way pool side for an African barbecue under the stars. We had choices of chicken, lamb and sausage, followed by profiteroles. We ate well!
Our African experience continued as Ackim told some of us his life story around the camp fire, closely followed by Alice’s devotion.
The evening ended with a talent show with everyone taking part. It was won by Holly B and Rachel with an original song ‘Be Our Guest’ about Team Zambia. Well done!!
